The first ever Community Forest in Paro Dzongkhag was handed over to the Shari Community on 9/8/2008. The Community Forest lies in the north side of Shari village with 25 households under Tsento Gewog. Dasho Dzongdag, Dzongkhag Adm, Paro was the Chief Guest for the day. The day started with the ceremonial procession.
The Chairman of the Community Forest welcomed the Chief Guest and all other Guests. He said that the Shari community is content for having owned the Community Forest as it would remain as an asset to the Community for times to come. He mentioned that the Community is very much thankful to the Royal Government of Bhutan for decentralizing the long protected forest to the community, indicating the total faith of the Government in its citizens.

Dasho Dzongdag, the Chief Guest explained the importance of the protection of forest through rightful ownership. He told the members that the resources should be well utilized and managed. Dasho also said that the protection of water sources within the Community Forest is very essential for safe drinking water throughout the seasons and for times to come.
