On 2nd June, 2009, the Social Forestry day was celebrated at Tenzin Higher Secondary School under Paro Dzongkhag. The Dzongkhag Forestry Sector in collaboration with the School Administration had organized the day’s program. The Chief Guest for the day was Dasho Dzongrab. Regional Heads, Sector Heads, Gups and Mangaps, School teachers and students also participated on the day.

The day started of with the arrival of the Chief Guest, marchang ceremony and an opening speech by the Chief Guest. In his address to the gathering, Dasho talked about the importance of forest in our day to day life and how it is crucial for every individual to conserve and protect the forest.

After the speech by the Chief Guest, the Dzongkhag Forest officer read out the message conveyed from the Honourable Minister, MoA on the importance of the day. The School boys and girls captain also read out their speech on the importance of such day.

After that, the Chief Guest, the invited guests, school teachers and students gathered at the School ground for tree plantation and each planted about two to three tree saplings with the promise to take care of their own tree by watering and applying good manure.

The plantation program was followed by debate session by students on ‘the need of 60 percent forest cover for all times to come’, cultural programs and awarding of cash prizes to the winners of debate.
