Jersey Cattle Competition Show To Boost Quality and Augment Production |

The first ever and inspiring event, “Jersey Cattle Competition show” held between Wangchang gewog and Shari gewog was graced by His Excellency Lyonpo Dr. Pema Jamtsho as the Chief Guest on 20th June 2009 at the Dzongkhag Veterinary hospital ground.
The program was attended by the Director General, Department of Livestock, Executive Director BAFRA, Specialists/PDs from NCAH, NLBP, DoL, Rabdey representatives, Dasho Dzongdag, Dasho Dzongrab, Regional heads, Sector heads of the Dzongkhag Administration, local leaders and the villagers from the two competent gewogs.
The day-long Jersey Cattle Competition show was aimed at promoting the quality and breed of cattles and augment dairy production in the valley. The cattles were categorized in to Milking cow, Dry/Pregnant, Heifer and the bull.
The day off started with the arrival of the Chief Guest in ceremonial procession followed by Zhudey and Marching ceremony. Chief Livestock Officer Paro Dzongkhag welcomed the chief guest and narrated the aim of hosting such program.
In the address to the gathering the Chief Guest added that the presence of a large number of good quality cattles in the show is an indication of interest in livestock rearing.
He also added that livestock and agriculture are the key essence of livelihood in the rural community and the produce from both as an organic product has high market value all over and therefore the use of chemical fertilizers in agriculture farming must be avoided as far as possible he said.
A milking competition among the invited guests was also organized followed by quiz and debate competition between the two gewogs on the topic “importance of local cattle to exotic breed”. In the mean time the judges went on evaluating the cattle as per the category.
As part of entertainment, various dances were performed by dancers from the two participating gewogs and dancers from Phuntshok Drayang Entertainment.
Towards the end of the program, prizes to the winners in different categories were awarded by the Hon’ble Chief Guest with a vote of thanks by DYT chairman, followed by lunch to the invited guests and Tashi Leybay.
